Riding farther, longer, with comfort rethought right from the start.

On a bike, everything hinges on three essential points of contact: hands, feet... and the seat. While the hands can move on the handlebars and the feet enjoy a certain amount of float on the pedals, the saddle imposes almost permanent immobility. And this is precisely where comfort becomes critical, especially as the miles pile up.

For optimum power transfer over time, you need to stay seated. And for this, the cushioning of bib shorts is vital. Poc wanted to re-evaluate traditional approaches to seat pad shape and construction to ensure maximum comfort for every cyclist, whatever their position on the bike.

Rethinking comfort in the saddle

The POC brand wanted to go further than traditional approaches to cycling comfort. The result: the new Cadence and Cadence Cargo cycling shorts, featuring a new patented chamois leather - the Novus Chamois - developed on the basis of extensive scientific research.

To achieve this, Poc researchers began by mapping pressure points on a wide variety of cyclists of all genders, morphologies and levels. The result? The data overturned a number of preconceived ideas. Pressure point widths are much wider than suggested by simple ischial measurements. And the differences between men and women turned out to be far more complex than expected.

Science at the service of ergonomics

This research was pursued with physiotherapists, gynecologists and fitting specialists to better understand the impact of position, morphology and even the perception of pain in the saddle. The result is the Novus Chamois, an innovation for long-lasting comfort.
  • For women, the Novus Chamois features a sculpted front zone to relieve frontal pressure, with a central recess to limit friction.
  • For men, a wider zone under the ischials is complemented by a central channel designed to improve circulation and reduce perineal pressure.
In both cases, the skin uses a multi-layer construction with foams of different densities, as well as a gel under the ischiums that doesn't settle, ensuring constant support over long distances.

A cut designed for movement

But comfort doesn't stop at the chamois. The cut of our cycling shorts has been totally redefined to accompany every pedal stroke. The straps on the women's W's Cadence Bib Shorts feature a revised system to facilitate natural breaks without compromising support. On the men's side, M's Cadence Cargo Bibs adopt a "pocket" shape at the front, with a redesigned hem to better fit the leaning position on the bike.

Go Wide and Far: the brand's mantra

POC has broadened its research to extend comfort even further. By rethinking the shape, materials and very design of the chamois, they have created cycling shorts capable of accompanying all cyclists, over all distances, in all positions.

Because the right comfort means the freedom to go further.
