vaude

Vaudethe pioneeringeco-responsible outdoor brand continues to surprise in terms of its commitment to the environment in recent years: in the process of becoming 100% climate neutral, the company is including more and more recycled materials in its products.

Materials derived from marine pollution

Vaude uses Econyl® nylon from old fishing nets abandoned in the seas and oceans: a method that does the planet good, with around 640,000 tonnes of fishing materials abandoned in the water, according to a report released by Greenpeace in 2019.

WWF considers this waste to be one of the major environmental problems of the 21st century. It's great to see an outdoor company like VAUDE using it to create high-quality clothing, protecting marine animals from "ghost nets".

Recycling PET bottles

Around 80 million tonnes of plastic packaging waste are generated every year. 32% of this waste ends up in the environment polluting nature, and we know that plastic bottles and packaging account for a large proportion of this. That's why Vaude has decided to include in its production chain the process of collecting, purifying, crushing and treating this waste to form granules which are then transformed into yarn.At the end of the process, a high-quality polyester is produced which, in its manufacture, requires 50% less energy and produces around 50% fewer CO2 emissions, all without requiring the use of any fossil fuel.
Vaude has made enormous strides in recent years, establishing itself as one of Europe's most eco-friendly outdoor equipment brands. The brand, already recognized for its commitment to the environment through the GreenShape and Grüner Knopf labels

continues to surprise with its different manufacturing processes. Antje von Dewitz, CEO of Vaude, states that by 2024 she aims to manufacture products mainly from bio-sourced or recycled materials.

Mass balance used tire recycling - how does it work?

A highly-inflated service for you and the climate! Our mass-balanced textiles are climate-friendly, highly functional and contribute to solving the major waste disposal problem of used tires: VAUDE uses a technology that extracts oil from plastics that are difficult to recycle, and integrates it into the polyamide production system using a certified mass balance method. The resulting sustainable polyamide is just as functional as conventional polyamide, while saving around 60% of the CO2 emissions involved in its manufacture!
