By definition, an eco-friendly product is one that generates the minimum impact on the environment throughout its life cycle.
There is no real standard or definition to determine whether a product is truly eco-friendly or not. However, it is possible to demonstrate by various means that a product has a reduced impact on theenvironment and on people, throughout its entire life cycle. The life cycle of a product includes: extraction of raw materials, manufacture, transport, use and end-of-life.
Ideally, a truly eco-friendly and environmentally-friendly product should be manufactured from renewable resources, locally, with no grey energy, no air, water or soil pollution, its daily use should not harm the environment, and its end-of-life should also respect the environment. However, this product does not exist.
But in recent years, with changing attitudes and growing ecological awareness, we've seen our partner brands make great strides in this area. They are stepping up their efforts to offer you products that are ever more respectful of theenvironment and our natural surroundings. It seems clear that it's by improving the way we consume that we can best meet our obligations to future generations.
Let's take a look at some of the initiatives of the brands we've decided to work with:
Vaude : Always less, always more for the environment
A company whose core value is the environment. Pictorial proof:
Ortovox: Transparent sourcing of raw materials
The brand works with farms that comply with the OWP standard and meet its quality expectations.
Since 2011, it has been using Swiss wool as a raw material for the filling of its products. Ortovox has decided to create Swisswool products as part of its commitment to the environment. These products stand out from the rest thanks to their regional origin, short transport routes and 100% European production. All these actions help to reduce the company'senvironmental impact.
La SportivaPreserving the beauty of nature
Since its creation, the brand has been committed to respecting nature so that outdoor sportsenthusiasts canenjoy it to the full.
Prana : Respect rhymes with responsibility
For Prana, no compromise should be made when it comes to the environment or the people who live on this planet. No matter how long it takes to achieve perfection, the important thing is to try rather than not at all.
It's also important to respect the people who make the clothes. These human beings must be supported and fairly remunerated for their skills. As the brand says: "Sustainability and style can and should live together".
Salewa: protecting nature through innovation
Aware of your love of nature, the brand has been working on a new technology:Alpine Hemp.
This fabric is made from hemp combined with other fibers including recycled polyester and organic cotton. Hemp is a plant with interesting characteristics: it grows rapidly, making this material more sustainable.
With this new technology, the brand shows that it is possible to use sustainable means to manufacture comfortable products in an environmentally-friendly way.
Finally, if we were to describe our ideal vision of an eco-friendly approach, it would include all the elements put forward by the partner brands mentioned above. Of course, not all criteria have been taken into account by these brands, but the essential point is that they have all at least tried to do something for the environment and future generations.
