Technologies and materials have been chosen for their performance and eco-responsible properties.
All backpacks are made from 100% recycled materials, insulation from recycled textile fibers, single-material designs to optimize cuts and waste, and reassuring reference standards such as Oeko-Tex and Blues.
The technical labels on their products are proof of this: they work with leading partners such as Gore-Tex, Polartec®, Vibram® and Repreve®.
In 1930, the three brothers Alfred, Victor and Gabriel Lafuma created the eponymous brand in their small workshop in Anneyron, Drôme. With the invention of the metal frame, they revolutionized the backpack. Over the years, the Lafuma brothers diversified their skills, creating camping furniture, textiles and footwear.
Today, based in Annecy, the team revisits the collections, preserving the know-how that has made the brand internationally renowned.
The mountains were Lafuma's very first playground, and the history of mountaineering tells of its pioneering knowledge of equipment. In 1953, his famous "Tyrolean" bag climbed Everest on the back of Sherpa Tensing. The 39-year-old Nepalese was the first man, along with Edmund Hillary, to climb and reach this legendary peak via the Tibetan North Face.
On the technical side, seasoned mountaineers have also accompanied Lafuma in its development. If we had to name just one, Gaston Rebuffat, a leading figure in French mountaineering, was for many years Lafuma's privileged technical advisor.
Today, Lafuma designs its collections for both extraordinary and ordinary adventures. To each his own Everest.
Sustainable development is in Lafuma's genes. Reducing our impact and helping to protect the environment have always been among our priorities.
Since its creation, Lafuma has brought together people who are passionate about nature, concerned about leaving their children a world in which it's good to explore. Today, more than ever, this is the guiding principle behind everything we do.
In the early 90s, Lafuma began to consider its role in protecting the environment.
An eco-responsible vision turned into action. In the field, Lafuma became a partner of France Nature Environnement in 1992 and of the WWF in 2000. And on the product side, Lafuma developed its first recycled cotton bag in 1993.
Today, 80% of our collection is eco-designed. These products are identified by our Low Impact™ label, certifying their traceability and eco-design.
Lafuma is also a committed community in the field. Once a year, for over 10 years, Lafuma has brought its community together in Chamonix and organized Operation Responsible Mountain, a day to raise awareness about reducing our impact in the mountains as well as in the city. In 10 years, more than 28 tonnes of waste have been removed from the mountain.
Since its creation, Lafuma has established itself as a key player in the field of mountain equipment. Founded in 1930 by the Lafuma brothers in Anneyron, this French brand has combined craftsmanship and functionality to meet the needs of nature enthusiasts. Over the decades, Lafuma has expanded its product range, offering everything from sleeping bags and hiking backpacks to technical clothing for the most demanding climatic conditions.
Lafuma stands out for the quality and durability of its products. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or an outdoor enthusiast, at Lafuma you'll find the ideal equipment for your adventures. Particularly popular are the hiking poles, designed to provide stability and comfort during your climbs. What's more, the collection also includes suitable jackets for both men and women, guaranteeing protection and style on the trails.
In the world of outdoor gear, many brands vie for consumers' attention. However, Lafuma remains a benchmark thanks to its commitment to quality and recognized expertise in the sector. By choosing Lafuma, you're opting not only for reliable equipment but also for an unrivalled user experience. To explore other options in this competitive segment, feel free to consult brands such as Osprey, Deuter, and Lowe Alpine. However, there's no denying that Lafuma remains the preferred choice among these market leaders.
