See our selection of Opinel Made in Savoie!
The invention of the Opinel knife dates back to 1890, thanks to the expertise of Joseph Opinel, a Savoyard with a passion for new technologies and a knife maker by profession. Initiated into creating pocket knives for his relatives, Joseph Opinel decided to exploit the possibilities offered by modern machines to design an innovative pocket knife. With its growing success, production at Opinel quickly evolved into an industrial operation.
In 1909, Joseph Opinel formalized the brand by registering the distinctive hallmark "La Main Couronnée", which was affixed to all the knives he produced. The brand became world-famous, supported by such renowned figures in adventure and cuisine as Marc Veyrat, eminent French chef, and Eric Tabarly, renowned sailor. Sales of Opinel reach record levels, exceeding 350,000 blades sold worldwide in the early 2010s. The N°08, one of many flagship models in the stainless steel range, has become a must-have for all those who love to explore nature.
Over the years, this little object has become an indispensable everyday accessory, with different numbered sizes ranging from 1 to 12. The collection has even expanded with the introduction of N°13, a giant knife measuring 50 cm! The Opinel N°08 is particularly appreciated for its versatility and Virobloc® safety system. You'll also find several models, including the N°08 Chêne Animalia, the N°08 Chêne, and the N°08 Bouleau Lamellé.
