The history of Outdoor Research
Ron Gregg, the founder of Outdoor Research, was a nuclear physicist who always considered the outdoors his great office. In 1980, after witnessing a tragic incident on a glacier in Denali, where his partner had to be rescued due to the failure of a simple pair of gaiters, he decided to take up the challenge.liported due to the failure of a simple pair of gaiters, Ron decided he wasn't going back to his old job. He set out to find a solution to prevent this from happening again. That's how he came up with the X-Gaiter™, a functional, insulated gaiter versatile enough to fit a variety of boots. This first innovation marked the beginning of Outdoor Research in 1981, a company born of the research-driven, problem-solving approach to the challenges of the outdoors.

Since its inception, Outdoor Research has been based in Seattle, where it specializes in the design and manufacture of award-winning clothing and equipment for outdoor activities.
